Dr. Nina Yaftali is a board-certified, primary care physician in the field of sports medicine who specializes in the treatment of concussions, musculoskeletal injuries, and medical treatment of the whole athlete. She sees patients at Primary Care Sports Medicine in Agoura Hills, California. With a strong background in Internal Medicine, Dr. Yaftali strives to keep all her athletes—both elite and non-elite—in peak performance.Raised as an avid tennis player in Westlake Village, Dr. Yaftali became a D1 athlete during her college career and has been a life-long athlete ever since. She received her Bachelors in Science, majoring in General Biology, from the University of Michigan, where she also served as the Captain of the Women’s Tennis Team in 2005. Driven by her passion for both athletics and medicine, Dr. Yaftali graduated from Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2014. She then completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, from 2014-2017.
In 2017-18, Dr. Yaftali then completed her fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush Medical College in Chicago, which is ranked #4 among orthopedic hospitals in the country. During her fellowship, Dr. Yaftali worked for professional teams such as the Chicago Bulls, the Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Fire. She also has experience at the collegiate level, serving as the fellow physician for DePaul University, where she worked with men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, tennis, and track. During her year in Chicago, she also covered events such as Joffrey Ballet, the Chicago Marathon, and training camps for the White Sox and the Bulls. After completion of her training at Rush University, Dr. Yaftali served as one of the primary care team physicians for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Currently, Dr. Yaftali works as the head physician for Louisville High School. She also provides coverage for tennis tournaments, local sporting events, local high schools, and mass participation events such as the LA Marathon. In 2021 she participated in the Olympic Trials for Track and Field in Eugene, Oregon. During the pandemic, she helped develop Covid protocols, including the diagnosing, tracking, and treating of Covid outbreaks on teams and in gym settings. More recently, she has been working with sports agencies such as CAA and Athletes First, providing care for many elite athletes.
Having been a top collegiate tennis player at a major Division 1 school, Dr. Yaftali understands that athletic injuries and ailments should not be treated in isolation. She draws from her wide experience in internal medicine as well as her team-based approach to get patients back to their peak levels of activity, lifestyle, and athletic performance. Dr. Nina Yaftali attended Westlake High School in Westlake Village, where her mother, Dr. Sima Yaftali, has served as an internal medicine specialist for decades. Her brother, Alex Yaftali, is also a life-long tennis player who is now COO at Monograph Wealth.
In her free time, Dr. Yaftali enjoys playing tennis, trying new restaurants, and experiencing new cultures.
